Films can transport you to a certain time and place. Some movies have so grabbed my heart, I've actually traveled to locations featured in their storylines to experience them firsthand. A Room With a View and A Month by the Lake definitely dictated stops on my first visit to Italy.
So, all you cinephiles who also just happen to be lovers of New York -- this post is right up your alley. Why? It's all about Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's Mistress America. Yep, the Blu-ray™ was released December 1. Even better -- we're hosting a contest and two lucky winners will receive a copy.
Haven't seen the film? Here's a synopsis via Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment :
"Tracy (Lola Kirke) is a lonely college freshman in New York, having neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisioned. But when she is taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Greta Gerwig) – a proud resident of Times Square and adventurous gal about town – she is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke's alluringly mad schemes. This modern screwball comedy is about dream-chasing and score-settling, make-shift families and cat stealing."
Which brings us to the contest:

In the film, Tracy gets to see New York through the eyes of Brooke. Indeed, the film serves as a Tour de Brooke with stops at SoulCycle, Times Square, a local psychic... you get the picture.

Jennifer Whitlock - Wow - my favorite spot in NYC. I don't know how to choose.
The backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall - a highlight of a day trip when I was 13.
11th Street in Greenwich Village - never been there, but I sent and received many a letter from a house on that street after a high school NC beach romance with a fun and gorgeous guy, "Manhattan Mike."
The World Trade Center (memories of the Twin Towers and the current tower and memorial) - symbols of America's strength and a sacred space that touches the soul.
The Rink at Rockefeller Center - shared a special time with my then tween daughter as she found her courage and embraced joy skating solo as I watched (mom's not so graceful on skates!).
Not to mention this sneaky suspicion that I have yet to find THE spot yet.
I <3 NYC!!

Julia - Mine is more a favorite memory if a place... a private backstage tour of several NBC studios. I was able to walk down the SNL opening monologue steps and sit at Conan's desk. In my mind I totally hosted both shows!!

David Jay Lasky - The best NYC hotspot is the Monkey Bar.
